Brothers Grimm lost heavily tonight and their lead has been cut by nine points by the two nearest challengers, X-Men and Duo, who both won 10-2. Still a 14 point gap to X-Men though and 19 to Duo. PinPals move back to fourth after a good 10-2 win.

Low scoring again this week with only ten bowlers bowling up to their averages. John Bryer was top scorer with 536 (611 with handicap) including the best game of the night 191 (224). Rich Lester and Merv Farrow were the only others to reach the 500 series mark. Karl King had the best handicap scores, a 234 (189) game and 627 (492) and The Kings top most of the team high score lists.

Another good week for Berenice Davies with an improvement of 3 to her high series to 446 (620).

Steve Emmony got a 5-10 split and Terry got a 5-7


The league scratch average fell again to 142.7

The gap between Brothers Grimm and their nearest challenger widened to 23 points after they picked up ten points from Dominos while X-Men lost again, 2-10 against the Kings. Duo in third place won 8-4 but are still 28 points behind the leaders.

Another low scoring week with only Martin Lapidge reaching 500 (518, a new PB for this league, 614 with handicap.) Barbara Lewis hit the only game over 200, with her first ever clean game; 208 (251). Two-thirds of bowlers bowled below their averages.

Berenice Davies improved her high game by eight to 172 (231)

Alan Barton and Steve Emmony got 5-10 splits

Brothers Grimm opened up a 15 point gap to their nearest rivals X-Men after taking all the points against Boom. X-Men and Duo in second and third both lost tonight but keep their place in the table. Duo are now 26 points behind the leaders.

Not many high scores again tonight and only two bowlers improved their seasons best scores. Steve Emmony had the best series, 513 (591 with handicap) but was the only player over 500 this week. John Bryer had the best game, 218 (242). Nicola Rye Holland had the best handicap series - 593 (476 scratch)

Liz Lake had a new high game, 9 higher at 155 (215) and Ray Telfer was one pin higher at 170 (220).

Graham Lewis eventually succeeded with a 6-7 split after three other opportunities. Karl King and Martin Lapidge got 5-7s and Merv Farrow got a 5-10

X-Men slipped up in their match against Duo, losing 4-8, and the gap to Brothers Grimm goes back to seven points. Duo return to third place after their win and after PinPals had a rare loss, losing 4-8 to Boom.

John Bryer and Rich Lester notched up another 500 series but Bunz Hughes hit only his second 500 series to lead the handicap series high scores with 629 (509 scratch)

Keith MacFarlane improved his high series for this season by 5 to 497 (608)

Paul Simmons converted a 3-7 split

X-Men chipped another four points off Brothers Grimm's lead and now trail by only three points. The Pin Pals march to the top continues with another win - 10-2 against third place Duo - which takes them above Duo.

Another low scoring week with only ten bowlers improving their averages. John Bryer had the best series, 518 (593 with handicap) and also had the best game, 207 (232). Steve Emmony was the only other bowler over 500. X-Men dominate the high team scores with Merv and Mick having two of the top three handicap series.

Keith MacFarlane was the only bowler to improve his high scores this week - a new high game of 202 (239)

Some good split conversions tonight: Ray Telfer converted a 6-7, Steve Emmmony a 4-10 and 5-7-9 and Terry Emmony got a 5-7.

League leaders Brothers Grimm ended their losing run with an 8-4 win over Duo who remain in third place. Second place X-Men lost 5-7 to the Specials and so the gap from first to second widens to seven points with another three to third place. PinPals won again tonight - their fifth in a row since the New Year - and have risen to fourth place after picking up 50 of the available 60 points. The odds against them winning the league have been slashed.....

Even fewer high scores this week - Chris Woodward had another big score - 522 (615 with handicap) but he was the only player to reach 500. There were no 200 games tonight, Terry Highton was nearest with 189 (225). Dominoes recorded the highest handicap game of the season, 456 (364 scratch)

Donna Smith improved her high game by 3 to 171 (224) and high series by 14 to 443 (602). Rose Barton had her best game of the league 186 (224).

Brothers Grimm lost again tonight and X-Men move to within four points of them at the half-way stage of the league. Third place Mac Too didn't pick up any points against Duo and slip to fourth. There are now only six points between first and third - before the Christmas break this had been 21 points.

Not many high scores tonight in the unfamiliar lanes (11 - 24 while refurbishment work continues) - only John Bryer and Rich Lester broke the 500 mark and John had the only 200 game of the night.

Unusually, no bowlers improved their high scores for the season tonight.

Ray Telfer converted a 1-5-7 split.

After last weeks losses the top four teams all won tonight and there are no changes in position. X-Men had the best result taking all the points from Boom and they close the gap to leaders Brothers Grimm to eight points ahead of next week's position night. Mac Too in third are another three points behind and they will play Duo next week defending another three point margin.

Steve Emmony was top scorer with a 590 series (665 with handicap) including a 243 (268) game which started with an open frame after a wide split. Rich Lester was next highest with 564 and also had the next best game, 215 (235). Martin Lapidge, back from injury, also made a 500 series with 506 (599) and he also had the next best game; 203 (234)
Berenice Davies had new high game and series scores for this league and the Pin Pals improved their high team scores as well. Paul Simmons hit a new high game and Keith MacFarlane a new high series.

For the second time in recent weeks the top four teams all lost tonight and apart from the leaders, Brothers Grimm they slip down the table. X-Men move up three places to second having beaten Lightning Strikes 12-0. They are now ten points behind the Brothers but only five more points separate second to sixth.

The usual suspects were missing from the high score lists this week with some good bowling by higher handicappers. Chris Johnson was top scorer with a 534 series (672 with handicap, the fourth best in the league so far.) which included his first 200 (246) game. Chris Woodward was next best with his second 500 series in a row (530, 626). Mick Freeborn also scored well with a new high series 510 (630) series and a 190 (230) game.

Tony Pearce had the best game, 205 (252) - his first time over 200 for many a year. He aso improved his high series in this league by 48 to 479 (620)

Rose Barton had a new high game, 7 higher at 185 (221)

Terry Emmony got a 5-10 split on the way to a clean game.

League leaders Brothers Grimm were whitewashed by Lightning Strikes but have a big enough lead to stay in first place. Last week's second, Beastie Boys could only pick up two points against Duo and slip to fourth while Mac Too rise a place to second after beating Dominoes 10-2.

Rich Lester and Nicola Rye Holland were top scorers: Rich with scratch scores of 580 (640 with handicap) including a 221 (241) game while Nicola had the best handicap scores; 668 and 262. Her new high game was a clean game, 27 higher at 220. Duo and Hot Chris Bunz were first and second in every team high score list.

Mick King had new high scores for this league, game +16 to 189 (238) and series +2 to 451 (598) Chris Woodward improved his high game by 7 to 208 (241).

Ray Telfer converted a 5-7 split.
