The three leading teams seem to have the league between them after they opened up a 30 point gap to fourth place. The gap between first and third is also the smallest it has been for many weeks. Dominoes continue to struggle with their form and lost 4-8 to Duo tonight while Turkeys and Brothers Grimm both won. The Brothers were fortunate to beat Glitter Girls 12-0 to close the gap to second place to just one point.

A high scoring week tonight: nine 500+ scratch series and five 200+ games. Brian Grayson had his best series for some time with 573 (681 with handicap) including a 215 (251) game. Merv Farrow was close behind with 567 (672) and he had the best game of the night; 222 (257)

Tim Hill improved his high series by three to 512 (647) while Mick Freeborn finally got through the 500 level with 502 (609). Dougie McCall had a new high game and high series for the league and hit a 400 series for the first time. Liz Lake had a new high game, 11 higher at 190 (234) and well done to Susi Cousins who had a new personal best game 171 (237).

Mick King dealt with a 3-7-10 split and Lee Georgeson converted a 5-7 split.

The league scratch average jumped by 0.3 to 145.9. (Summer league was 146.4)

After a setback last week the Dominoes improve their position at the top of the table with a 10-2 win over Mac Too plus one. Their nearest challengers, Turkeys slipped up against Hit & Miss and only took two points - the gap between first and second is now 14 points. New third place Brothers Grimm made some ground on both of them with a 12-0 win over Duo but they are still 13 points behind.

Terry Emmony was top scorer this week with 547 (664 with handicap) an improvement of 29 on his best series in this league with Rose Barton next on 538 (625) - also an improvement over her previous best this season. Rose also had the best scratch game, 213 (242)

Brothers Grimm, for once, both bowled well tonight (against Duo, who seem to inspire their opposition) and head all of the high score lists: a 1,058 series (1,268) and 392 (462). Several of these scores are close to the best of the league so far.

Nicola Rye-Holland scored her first 500 series tonight - 522 (651) an improvement of 60 over her previous best. Graham Lewis improved his best game of the league by three to 191 (233) with the help of five strikes in a row.

Alan Barton picked up a 5-7 split.

The league scratch average improved by another 0.2 to 145.9 (Summer league was 146.4)

After more wins tonight, Dominoes and Turkeys move further ahead of the field. However, Dominoes extend their lead over Turkeys by another two points to 14 with another twenty to new third place Hit & Miss. Last weeks third place, Owls, drop to fifth after a whitewash from Lightning Strikes.

Some good scores tonight in spite of the long lay-off over Christmas. John Bryer hit a 543 (600 with handicap) including a 217 (236) game - one of only two 200 games tonight. Rose Barton celebrated her recent birthday by improving her best scores of the season; a 536 (623) series and a 222 (251) game.

Rose also successfully dealt with a 6-7-10 split and Dale Cousins got a 5-7.

The league scratch average was slightly lower this week - a fall of 0.1 to 145.5 (Summer league was 146.4)

Last weeks second place Turkeys, slipped further back after losing 2-10 to Mac Too while Dominoes continue their push for the league title with another win, this time 10-2 against Men Behaving Badly. Turkeys still have a buffer of 18 points to Hit & Miss in third place. None of the top five teams changed position tonight.

Alan Barton and Harry Hargreaves were joint top scorers on a thin night for good scores, both scoring 524. Lee Georgeson (Glitter Girls + 1) had his best series in the league and his first 500 series - an improvement of 29 to 515 (638 with handicap, the best of the night). Harry had the next best handicap series; 620. New Grandad Keith MacFarlane also did well with a 618 handicap series.

Merv Farrow had his first 200 game of this league, 211 (245 -the best tonight). Mike Davies recovered some of his form with a new high game, 160 (202) and series, 404 (593).
