Last week's leaders Glitter Girls slip back to third place after a top of the table clash with Brothers Grimm. The Brothers won 10-2 and they are now level on points but ahead on pinfall with the other brothers, the Chuckle Brothers. Glitter Girls are another seven pints adrift with X-Men fourth three points lower.

Unusually, nobody reached 500 or 200 for high series and game tonight. Harry Hargreaves was top scorer with 498 (615 with handicap) and a high game of 187 (226). Nathan Ferrie had the best handicap series with 618 (483 scratch -his best of the season so far).


Merv Farrow dealt with a 5-7 split and Harry Hargreaves got one on the other side, a 5-10.

The league scratch average remained at 139.0

After another good win, this time 10-2 against Dominoes, the Glitter Girls become the eighth team to head the table in this league. They have a one point lead over previous leaders Brothers Grimm who scraped an 8-4 win over Lightning Strikes. X-Men beat the Chuckle Brothers to go above them but the brothers sit just five points behind top spot with a game in hand.

John Bryer was again top scorer with a 543 series (597 with handicap) which included the league's best scratch game so far, 239 (257 - only the fifth best of the season). Well done to Nathan Ferrie who improved his high game by 25 pins to reach a new personal best 200 (246).

Barbara Lewis hit a new high game tonight; four higher at 164 (219).


Nicola Rye Holland was successful with 6-7-10 split Steve Emmony converted a 2-4-7-10

The league scratch average fell slightly again to 139.0

Last week's top two teams were both beaten 4-8; Brothers Grimm by Chuckle Brothers who move up to second, tied on points but with a lower pinfall. Glitter Girls drop to third but only one point behind. X-Men also move closer to the top with a 10-2 win that leaves them only three points off the lead.

Keith MacFarlane found the lanes to his liking - for once - and was top scorer with 566 (683 with handicap) which included two 200+ games; 221 (260) and 208. Both series and game scores were season best for Keith. Lew Ashenden (Flintstones) had a personal best game tonight: 185 (244 - second best of the night). Adam Holland (Glitter Girls), in his first match of the season, had the second best handicap series with 621 (486 scratch)

Mark Hollis (FBI) improved his high series by 29 to 409 (580) and high game by 16 to 160 (220).

The top of the league table is very close after Glitter Girls move up a place with a win over X-Men, in a second v third match. Brothers Grimm retain the lead from them by just a point after an 8-4 win over Turkeys. In a close match, the Brothers went into the third game 0-4. Chuckle Brothers, with a game in hand, are just four points behind the leaders.

Another low scoring week: John Bryer was the exception, missing out on a 600 scratch series by two pins. His 598 (652) also included the only 200 game, 226 (244). John's scratch average increased by 1.6 pins to 176.8, 13 pins higher than Steve Emmony in second place with 163.7.

There were new high scores for both series and game by Karen Davies (Pinpals) and Mike Davies (Lightning Strikes). Mark Hollis (FBI) also improved his high scores for game and series.

In spite of losing 4-8 on position night, Brothers Grimm hang on to top spot witha reduced margin of three points over X-Men. Glitter Girls keep third place with a 10-2 win over Duo and now only trail X-Men on pinfall. Duo drop down to fifth and are replaced by Chuckle Brothers.

A low scoring week generally: Harry Hargreaves and the Turkeys dominate the high score lists from lane 14. Harry hit a 531 series (648 with handicap), his first 500 series of the season, and also had the best game; 192 (231). The Turkeys had the second best scratch series of the league with 1017 (1245).

Mick Freeborn had a new high game, five higher at 182 (224).

Brothers Grimm won a very close match against Detox by 12-0 and now have a seven point lead over new second place X-Men who had a walkover tonight. Glitter Girls move up six places to third after a 12-0 win in their scheduled match and another in their rearranged match. Duo drop to fourth in spite of winning 8-4.

Mick King had his first 500 series of the league tonight; 65 better than his previous high at 558 (666 with handicap) He also had the best game of the night 212 (248). Nicola Rye-Holland also improved her high series, by 9 to 529 (640).

Terry and Anita Highton both improved their high series by 15 pins and both had new high games. They also had the same high game score (with handicap) 238. Harry Hargreaves had a new high series with an improvement of 5 to 497 (617). Simon Bird's series was 51 higher, at 455 (626), than his previous best.

Nicola was successful with 5-7 and 5-10 splits and Nathan Ferrie also got a 5-7.

Chuckle Brothers had their biggest loss for some time when they came up against former winners Lightning Strikes. They move down to third place, on pinfall, with Duo, six points behind Brothers Grimm who move to the top after a walk over due to injuries to the Flintstones.

Lightning Strikes had most of the high scores this week with Graham Lewis hitting form at the right time. Graham had his first 500 series of the league with 526 (661 with handicap), an improvement of 66 pins over his previous best. His series included one of only two 200+ games this week.

Rose Barton had the only other 500+ series with a new high series 519 (636) and Mick King had the best scratch game of the night, 211 (248)

Rich Lester converted a 1-3-7 split and Mary Grayson got a 5-10

The league scratch average was unchanged at 139.6

In a week affected by a walk-over and a postponement, Chuckle Brothers keep top spot by two points but now have a game in hand over new second place Duo. Brothers Grimm move up two places to third, a further four points behind.

Brothers Grimm feature in all of the high score lists this week. Terry had the best score of the night, 509 (632 with handicap) which was one of only two 500+ series. There were no 200 games.

Mary Grayson had a new high game for the season, 15 higher at 186 (238, the best handicap game of the night).

Steve Emmony had several opportunites to practice picking up splits and dealt brilliantly with a 6-7-10 and also a 3-7-9.

The league scratch average fell by 0.1 to 139.6

The Chuckle Brothers go into the Christmas break with a 12 point lead over their nearest challengers, Detoxmyflipflops. The Brothers had another 12-0 win, this time over Glitter Girls while last week's second, Duo could only draw with the Owls and slip to fourth. The Flintstones rise a place to third.

Steve Emmony was top scorer with an excellent 580 (661 with handicap) which included games of 199 and 198. In interviews after the match, Steve said that "with a bit more luck I could have easily got the highest score for the league". Richard Lester was next best at 533 (610) and also had the only 200+ game tonight; 214 (243).

Several bowlers had new high games and series tonight. Terry Highton broke 500 for the first time, ten higher at 507 (624), Ray Telfer improved by 28 to 494 (638 - second highest this week), Nathan Ferrie scored 482 (626), 41 better than his previous best. Rose Barton and Liz Lake were 5 and 24 higher than their previous highs at 511 (628) and 469 (594) respectively. Rose also improved her high game score by 17 to 198 (237).

The Chuckle Brothers had a narrow win tonight against RTFB but still increase their lead in the table to five points over new joint second place teams Duo and Detoxmyflipflops. Last week's second and third, Flintstones and Brothers Grimm both lost 12-0 and slip four places to fifth and sixth.

The high scores lists were dominated by Paul Hurst and his team the X-Men. Paul improved his high series score by a massive 148 to 584 (746 with handicap; a new high for the league by almost 50 pins). He also had a new high game, 55 pins higher at 231 (285 - also a new high for the league). The X-Men now have the highest team series for scratch and handicap; 1,058 (1,328)

Brian Grayson had a new high series (20 higher at 498, 633) and game (15 higher at 191, 236). Diane MacFarlane also improved her high scores: series +47 to 480 (633) and game +6 to 174 (225). Donna Smith hit a 401 (617) series, 53 higher than previously and also had a new high game, 23 higher at 162 (234). Chris Woodward had a new high series, +2 at 450 (603).

Martin Cook was successful with a 6-7-10 split and Paul Hurst got a slightly easier 3-6-7. Terry Highton got a 5-10.

The league scratch average picked up this week by 0.6 to 139.5.
