Dominoes Successfully Defend Title

The Dominoes timed their good run of form perfectly to win the last game, on position night, and overtake the Owls to win the league for the second year. The Owls paid a high price for this and other losses in recent weeks by slipping down to fifth place. Last weeks fifth placed Turkeys beat another league leader in earlier weeks, Vipers, by 12-0 and jump to second place. Brothers Grimm held Balls Up to a draw to retain third place with Balls Up finishing in fourth.

Martin Cook was top scorer this week with 534 (606 with handicap) from Rose Barton on 531. Matt Barton hit the best handicap series with 608. Steve Emmony returned to get the best game; 215 (245).

Matt Barton improved his high series by 5 to 518 and his high game by 2 to 202.

Kim Stone converted a 4-8-10 split.

The league scratch average fell by another 0.3 to end on 148.3

Leaders bottle it!

The bad run by the leading teams continues for a third week with last weeks top three picking up only three points between them. The Owls and Vipers were beaten 0-12 and Brothers Grimm picked up only three points against Self Inflicted and are overtaken by Dominoes. Vipers slip from third to sixth.

This means that several more teams chasing these three have a chance of getting close to the top in the final, position week, next week.

Rose Barton returned to form at the right time and hit the best scratch series, 572 (641 with handicap) and also the best scratch game 225 (248). Terry Highton had the next best series and the best with handicap, 566 (656). Dominoes had the best team scores at scratch and handicap. Harry Hargreaves finally had a 200 game: seven higher than his previous best at 201 (239).

Ted Hubbard converted the difficult 6-7-10 split.

The league scratch average fell by another 0.1 to148.6
