X Factor move to the top

X Factor made further progress tonight with leaders Brothers Grimm not playing and with a 12-0 win over X-Men move to the top on pinfall. 'Our Balls' took 10 points off the Owls and move up one place to third, 14 points behind the leaders. The Vipers continue their progress up the table moving up two places tonight to within four points of third and with a game in hand.

Des Sands and his team X Factor dominate the high scores this week; Des hit a 617 (677 with handicap) series including a 238 game (256). John Lyons was second to Des in all of the individual lists.

Vipers (John Lyons and David Sibley) took the team high game honours this week with 408 (451) but X Factor had the best team series - 1,181 (1,277 - the best in the league so far)

Michelle Smith had a new personal best game 166 (218)

Elaine Standley had an inspired split conversion - 2-4-8-10

The league scratch average improved by 0.4 to 154.6

Brothers Grimm in the clear

X Factor made full use of their game in hand by taking 18 points from the two games tonight but they remain in second place,10 points behind Brothers Grimm who took all the points against Young Guns by a wide margin tonight. X-Men beat Skittle Scuttlers 10-2 and move up two places to third, another ten points behind X Factor.

Some new faces in the high score lists for a change; Steve Emmony had the best series tonight, 565 (643 with handicap) and Harry Hargreaves had the best game, 211 (241).Well done to John Bodicoat who had his first ever 200+ game, 201 (247 - the best handicap game of the night) and also to Robbie Holt who bowled his first scratch 500 series, 526 (646 - best of the night)

The Brothers swept the board with the team high scores and their 1,263 handicap series is the best in the league so far.

Will Bukiel had his best series of the league so far, 501 and Paul Simmons improved his best series in this league by 41 to 477.

Several bowlers had trouble bowling near their averages tonight and the league scratch average fell by 0.3 to 154.2.

The Brothers Grimm hang on

The match between X Factor, last week's second and Duo, last week's third was postponed and so Brothers Grimm hang on to the lead despite being beaten 4-8 tonight by the Smiths. The Vipers jump five places to third after easily beating the Owls.

Paul Wilkinson returned from holiday to score a 590 series (677 with handicap - second best in the league to date) including games of 219 (248) and 210. He won 8 points from the X-Men despite Neil Brewin's absence. David Sibley was next highest scorer with 570 (627) and Harry Hargreaves improved his best series in this league by 54 to 560 (656)

Robbie Holt had a new high series in this league, 453 (579)

Steve Emmony converted a 5-7 split.

The league scratch average remained at 154.6

The Brothers Grimm storm ahead

The clash of first v second resulted in an emphatic 12-0 win for Brothers Grimm against a below form X Factor. The Brothers now lead by 14 points and there is a further six point gap to third place. After a walk over against Young Guns Duo move up to third place above Our Balls.

There were seven 500+ series tonight, the best was by David Sibley with 565(628 with handicap). Neil Taylor improved his best series by 39 to score 555 (651). Keith MacFarlane had his best series of the league so far with 554 (620) and also the best game of the night, 206 (228).

Well done to Jaimie Marlow (X-Men) who had a personal best game and series tonight, 508 (his first 500 series), 658 with handicap. He also had his first 200 game (204, 254). Well done also to Michelle Smith also set new personal bests - a scratch series of 428 (32 higher) and a new high game 163 (11 higher)

John Lyons converted a 6-7 split and commented that his shot was "F B" (What else would you expect John to say?)

The gap widens....

The Brothers Grimm have edged in front of X Factor after a 12-0 win over LAPD while X Factor could only take 10 points off The Smiths. However, the gap between second and third (Our Balls) is now 14 points. Hit & Miss jump 3 places to fourth, another point behind, after beating Mac Too by 10-2.

Terry Damm hit the fourth 600 series of the league tonight, 646 (682 with handicap) and now leads both of the high series lists for the league so far. His series included a 254 game (266) which also heads the high game lists. Terry's team mate, Will Bukiel also scored well and with tonight's scores X Factor have now taken top spot in three of the high team score lists.

Brian Grayson was next best bowler tonight with 557 (659) including a 220 game (254) and Steve Emmony improved his best score so far by 42 pins to 532 (619).

Jaimie Marlow converted a 5-7-9 while Diane MacFarlane got a 5-10 and Liz Lake was successful with a 4-7-9.

Top two open up a gap

X-Factor and Brothers Grimm are now level on points with X factor ahead on pinfall but both are eight points clear of X Men in third place. The Brothers made up the two point gap from last week by beating the Owls 8-4 while X Factor could only draw with LAPD.

Another good week for consistent high scoring, ten bowlers were over 500 but there were only three games over 200. Once again Malcolm was top scorer: 576 (630 with handicap) including games of 229 (247) and 224. Richard Springthorpe had his first 500 series for some time, 504 (636 - the best of the night).

Several bowlers recorded new high scores, Sarah Standley improved her best in this league by 27 to 517, Neil Taylor by 79 to 516 (630), Harry Hargreaves by 19 to 506, Lesley Reeday by 41 to 474 and Steve Emmony by 8 to 490.

Mary Grayson was successful with a 1-2-10 washout

New Leaders again

X-Factor took maximum points from the Vipers to move up to the top of the table. Last weeks leaders, Brothers Grimm beat Mac Too but by only 8-4 and are now two points adrift of the leaders. Young Guns hold on to third place in spite of losing 8-4 tonight.

Much better bowling this week, there were eight 500+ series and seven 200+ games. Terry Damm top scored with 587 (623 with handicap) including two games of 204. Mary Grayson was top lady scorer with 515 (638 - the best handicap series of the night).Lee Shellard hit a 224 (263) game.

Jaimie Marlow (X-Men) had a new personal best game and series tonight with 193 (249) and 458 (626)

Neil Brewin succesfully dealt with a 5-7 split and also a 4-9.

Other good shots were made by Neil Taylor, 1-2-10 and Tony Pearce with a 1-5-10

The league scratch average improved by 0.3 to 153.7

Brothers Grimm surprise leaders

The Brothers gathered 24 points tonight having beaten Vipers 12-0 and also getting 12 points from the match carried over from week one against Our Balls (Neil Taylor & John Bodicoat). They zoom from 13th to first, two points ahead of X Factor. Young Guns hold on to third place at the expense of LAPD whose spell at the top this time was short lived.

Another relatively low scoring week, only three 500 series and three 200+ games. Martin Cook was highest in both categories; a clean 224 (246 with handicap) and 551 (617). Keith MacFarlane and Brian Grayson took all the other high scoring positions this week. Keith with the best handicap game, 251 and Brian the best handicap series, 637.

There seemed to be many more splits than normal this week and several players succeeded with conversion attempts:Lesley Reeday and Keith and Diane MacFarlane all converted 5-7 splits. Keith also got a 4-5-7. Malc Congreve and Scott Ellington both got 1-2-4-10s and Scott also succeeded with a 1-2-10. David Sibley got a 2-4-8-10 and John Lyons was very pleased with himself for getting a 3-6-7-10

LAPD go top

After a second 10-2 win, this week against Hit & Miss, LAPD move to the top of the table, 2 points clear of X Factor. Young Guns had the best handicap series of the night to score a maximum points win over Mac Too and move up eight places to third.

Not quite as high scoring this week as last; six bowlers had 500 series, the best being Terry Damm 584 (608 with handicap) with team mate Des Sands next with 538 (577).Harry Hargreaves had the best handicap game, 238 and Neil Brewin the best handicap series 629. Only three 200+ games this week; Terry Damm 213 (221), Des 204 (217) and Sarah Standley 203 (229).

Diane MacFarlane converted a 5-7 split and Martin Cook was successful with the same split on the other side, 5-10. Michelle Smith got a 4-5.

The Smiths in strong start

The Smiths find themselves in the unfamiliar position of the top of the table thanks to a very strong first match from Ian. He scored 643 (197, 240, 206) and leads all of the high scoring lists.

Ian isn't the only player to end week one with a nil handicap; Malcolm Congreve, bowling for the Skittle Scuttlers hit 631 and David Sibley, now with the Vipers, scored 613. There were a total of ten games over 200.

Vipers (David Sibley/John Lyons) had the best scratch game and series; 411 (421) and 1,167 (1,197)

Diane MacFarlane had her best score for some time, 516 (570 with handicap) including a 200 game (218)
