Scuttlers almost there

In a first v second clash tonight, Skittle Scuttlers virtually assured themselves of winning the league. They beat X Factor 10-2 and are now seven points clear of new second place Vipers. Vipers must beat the Scuttlers by at least 10-2 on the final week (position night) to win the league. X Factor slip to third, a further nine points behind and realistically probably can't improve next week.

There weren't many big scores this week, Matt Titchard lead the way with 548 (623) with playing partner Malcolm Congreve just behind with 541. There were only two games over 200.

Keith MacFarlane converted a 5-10 split.

The league scratch average fell by 0.1 to 155.3.

Winter League 2004/5
Week 25, 4 April 2005

Closer at the top

Last weeks leading three teams all lost tonight while the following three all won. The points differences now mean that the league title is winnable by at least five teams. Skittle Scuttlers hold on to the lead by five points from Vipers who are just one point ahead of X Factor. Brothers Grimm continue to improve in fourth place, nine points behind the Scuttlers.

There were no significant scores tonight: Rich Lester had the best scratch series with 543 (600 with handicap) and Elaine Standley hit her first 500+ series (a seasons best 531 , 627 - the best handicap series of the night) after a long absence through injury. Anne Congreve had a new season high series score, +15 to 503 (605) (and outscored Malcolm tonight)

Liz Lake scored her first 200 game for some time - the only 200+ game of the night - an improvement of 27 pins on her previous high game.

For the second week in a row John Bodicoat was successful with a 5-10

The league scratch average remained at 155.4.

The low-handicappers made all the high scores this week; Malcolm had all the best individual scores, scratch and handicap, with David Sibley, John Lyons and Rich Lester also in the frame.

Some good split conversions this week: John Lyons got lucky with a 6-7, John Bodicoat was successful with a 5-10 and Terry Emmony got a 5-8-10

Skittle Scuttlers rise to the top

Skittle Scuttlers move up two places to the top of the league after a 12-0 win over X-Men. With their third loss in a row and the second week without any points at all, X Factor slip to second place and last weeks second place Vipers slip to third having also lost tonight.

For the second week, the high score lists are missing the usual players; Keith MacFarlane was top scorer with 535 (601 with handicap) and Lesley Reeday had her second 500 series in a row, and her best of the season to record the weeks' high handicap series with 627. Terry Emmony had the only 200 game tonight: 204 (230).

Steve Emmony converted a 2-10 split after his 6-7 last week.

The league scratch average improved 0.1 to 155.5.

X Factor lose more ground

X Factor maintain their place at the top of the table inspite of being beaten by Duo tonight but their lead over second place Vipers has been cut again to only three points. Third place Skittle Scuttlers also gained six points on X Factor and are now eight points behind. Brothers Grimm improve two places to fourth after beating the Smiths by 12-0 - the first time the Smiths have not won any points since early January.

The usual suspects were missing from the high score lists this week; Neil Taylor and Steve Emmony shared the high game and high series honours between them and Brothers Grimm had all the high team scores except handicap game which Our Balls took from them by two pins.

Neil taylor had a new personal best game tonight with 220 (249 with handicap) and Richard Springthorpe improved his seasons high game by 13 to 192. Lee Bowman (Young Guns) had a new high series sore, 22 higher at 482 (608)

Steve Emmony converted a 6-7 and Elaine Standley, in her first game back after injury, got a 5-7.

The league scratch average improved 0.1 to 155.4.

Surprise results but leaders survive

Some surprising results this week with some top teams being comprehensively beaten by teams much lower in the table. Second place Vipers failed to get any points against tenth place Our Balls, the Owls had a 12-0 win over the Turkeys and Skittle Scuttlers lost 4-8 to LAPD.

The top three places are unchanged however and X Factor move ahead of second place Vipers by 11 points having beaten Brothers Grimm tonight. The Owls move up two places to fourth, pushing the Turkeys back to fifth.

Star turns this week were Hit & Miss, Lesley Reeday and Paul Simmons who both had new high games and high series for the season and their team scores appear in the season high score lists. Lesley improved her best series by 25 to 501 (621 with handicap) and included her first two 200+ games in that series; 200 & 208 (248). Paul was 54 higher than his seasons best at 531 scratch (645) including his first 200 game; 28 higher at 210 (248). Their team handicap game of 496 is second for the season and their handicap series 1,266 is third.

The league scratch average remained at 155.3.
