Leaders all slip up

Last weeks leaders, Call me Blondie (Pat & Karen Byrne) and Duo (Tony Pearce & Rich Lester) both lost 10-2 this week (to Brothers Grimm (Terry & Steve Emmony) and Hit & Miss (Lesley Reeday and Liz Lake)) but stay in first and second places in the league. Coincidentally, both teams avoided a whitewash by one pin to gain their 2 points. Brothers Grimm move up to third place after this win.

Wilkos (Andy and Julie Wilkins) last weeks third place had a bad week, also losing 10-2, to the Owls (Brian and Mary Grayson) and slip to sixth place.

best split Malc Congreve (Gutterballs) and Kaz Byrne both converted 2-4-10 splits. Kaz also got a 1-2-10.

There were six 500+ games this week: Matt Titchard (Skittle Scuttlers) was the best with 556 (634 with handicap) with Steve Emmony, 534 (621) and Karen Byrne 533 (608) close behind. Matt also scored the best scratch game of the night, one of only 3 games over 200, with 210 (236)

The overall league average stayed the same at 145.5.

Two Horse Race?

Duo (Tony Pearce & Rich Lester) closed the gap on Call me Blondie (Pat & Karen Byrne) by beating Skittle Scuttlers (Nicky Guest & Scott Ellington) 8-4 whilst Call me Blondie could only draw with The Owls (Brian and Mary Grayson). These two teams are now 16 points clear of third place though and even at this stage a 2 horse race is likely for some time to come.

The Wilkos (Andy and Julie Wilkins) both bowled well above their average to easily beat Brothers Grimm (Terry Emmony & Ian Smith) and move into third place. Andy & Julie scored the best handicap game of the night, 422 and best handicap series, 1,158. Ian was playing his last regular game before moving north & if anybody knows a medium sized Ian Smith who wants to bowl, he can have a personalised team shirt to play in.

Another dearth of high scores again; Malc Congreve and Pat Byrne both scored 511 and Sean MacFarlane got 503. Elaine Standley broke the 200 barrier with 201 in spite of a split in the last frame to record the best game of the night (237 with handicap) and Martin Cook got the only other 200 game with exactly 200.

Even so, the overall league average stayed the same at 145.5.

Call me Blondie back on top

After a good recent run Wilkos (Andy & Julie Wilkins) came down to earth with a 12-0 beating by Call me Blondie (Pat & Karen Byrne) who take over at the top of the table as a result. They lead by 2 points over Duo (Tony Pearce & Rich Lester) who won 8-4 in a close game that could have gone either way against Mac Too (Diane & Sean MacFarlane). Brothers Grimm (Terry Emmony & Ian Smith) regain third place from Wilkos after drawing 6-6 with The Owls (Brian and Mary Grayson).

Yet again, very few high scores: Sean MacFarlane had the best series with 543 (597 with handicap) which included the best game of the night, scratch and handicap, 223 (241). Richard Lester in the same match kept pace with 539 (590)and Pat Byrne scored 538 (577) including the only other 200+ game, 204.

best split    Brian Hipwell got the best reported split conversion of the night with a 5-7.

Duo stay 2 points clear

With Duo and Call me Blondie both winning 10-2, the league table is unchanged. With the 2 best series of the night Pat (563, 605 with handicap) and Stu (557, 632) Call me Blondie beat Hit & Miss (Lesley Reeday and Paul Simmons). Duo were involved in a low quality but very close game with Brothers Grimm - a handful of pins would have made the result 10-2 to the Brothers. Wilkos (Andy and Julie Wilkins) beat the out of form Skittle Scuttlers 12-0 to climb to third place in the table.

LAPD are on the charge up the table with their second win in a row. Elaine improved her best series so far by 13 to 492 (603 with handicap) and was unlucky not to get a 200 game, finishing the second with the only open frame of the game on 199.

best split    Tony Pearce got the best reported split conversion of the night with a 1-3-7.

The overall league average was unchanged at 145.3.

Joint Leaders

Call me Blondie (Pat & Karen Byrne, Stu Cleland) maintained their position at the top of the table by beating X Factor (Terry Damm & Des Sands) 8-4 but they were joined on 36 points by Brothers Grimm (Terry Emmony & Ian Smith) who won 12-0 against Gutterballs (Paul Wright & John Bodicoat). Pat Byrne once again outscored everybody with a 543 series which included the only 200+ game of the night, 240.

Three games delayed from last week were completed tonight with Duo (Tony Pearce & Rich Lester) taking full advantage with a 12-0 win over Turkeys (Harry Hargreaves & Martin Cook) to add to their 12-0 win over Camp David (Richard Springthorpe & Robbie Holt) tonight. They rise from 12th last week to third this week.

Another low scoring night, only Terry Damm with 536 and Richhard Lester, 525 beat 500. The overall league average however again improved by 0.7 to 144.3.

Matt Titchard got the best split conversion with 4-7-10 although Mary Grayson (The Owls) was close behind with a successful 4-7-9 and Paul Simmons (Hit & Miss) got three quarters of the 'bedposts' split 4-7 6-10 and was unlucky not to get the last one.

Call me Blondie take over

Call me Blondie (Pat & Karen Byrne) (aka BBC) move up from third to their customary position at the top of the table after a 12-0 win over Gutterballs (Paul Wright & John Bodicoat). In doing so, Pat scored a 623 series, the best of the season so far, which included games of 221 and 209.

In a night affected by the absence of several Leicester City fans only 5 matches were completed. The best was between last weeks leaders, X Factor (Terry Damm & Mark Cort) and second place, Wilkos (Andy and Julie Wilkins). In spite of a series of 622 and the best game of the week, 247, by Terry Damm, Wilkos won 8-4, taking the 2 points for series pinfall by 1 pin. Andy's 489 scratch series (621 with handicap) is the fourth best handicap series so far

Only Ian Smith (Brothers Grimm) beat the 500 mark with 507 and there were no other games over 200. The overall league average however improved by 0.6 to 143.6.

Terry Damm got the best split conversion of the night with a 4-10
