Final Week, 12 - 18 August

LAPD rise to the top in a dramatic last week

After a very tight and competitive position night, the leading teams throughout the league fell by the wayside as LAPD powered to the top of the table. From fourth place last week they easily beat Pure Magic 12-0 to overtake them and with Mac Too in second beating X Factor 8-4, LAPD edged past them both to win by a point from Mac Too with X Factor another point away in third.

Pure Magic were also overtaken by Brothers Grimm who beat Fatal Beauty 12-0 to improve to fourth place.

The competitiveness of the position night lead to some good scores - there were 8 series over 500 and six players beat their previous high series in the league. The league average improved by another 0.8 to 148.8 which is the highest ever.

Matt Titchard was top scorer with 556 - 79 pins higher than his previous best this league, (643 with handicap), closely followed by Elaine Standley with another good score this week, 551 (638) and her best in this league, including the high game of the night, 208. Tony Pearce 540 and Liz Lake, 458 improved their best series by 30 and 22.

Players in some of the teams lower down the table excelled themselves tonight: Richard Springthorpe of Shatners Bassoon had the best individual handicap game and improved his best series by 52 to 495, and Paul Wilkinson of Young Guns had his best scratch series ever, 537 (663). Shatners Bassoon also feature in all the high team scores lists.

Sarah Standley was suuccessful with a 3-6-7-10 split.

Summer League 2003
Week 11 - 11 August

X Factor take over

Last week's third place, X Factor take over at the top of the table, with only position night to come next week, with a 10-2 win over leaders Pure magic who slip to third place. Mac Too in second could only draw against Shatners Bassoon but that was enough to stay in second, 3 points behind the leaders. LAPD jump to fourth place after winning 8-4 tonight and 8-4 in their game in hand from last week.

Consistent bowling again by many players, in spite of the heat. Six over-500 series were recorded but only 4 games over 200. Elaine Standley was top scorer with 543 (633 with handicap) including a game of 222 (252 - best in the league so far) with Scott Ellington just behind with 531 (612) and a 223 game (250 - third best in the league). Keith MacFarlane got his 11th 500 series and only needs next week to go through the whole league over 500. (No pressure Keith!) Brian Grayson chose this week (v. Brothers Grimm) to record his best game and series in this league.

The new John Bodicoat converted a 5-10 split and Graham French was successful with a 5-7.

The league average improved by another 0.5 to 148.0 which is the highest ever.

Pure Magic!

Malc Congreve returned from illness to clock up the best series in this league by some way. All 3 games in his 639 (693 with handicap) were over 200 and the scratch score was 54 higher than the league's previous high series. Playing on his own, he collected 29 points on the night, including 2 games in hand built up while he was away.

Pure Magic go straight to the top of the table, 4 points clear of last weeks leaders X-Factor who are only one point in front of Mac Too and two clear of LAPD.

Apart from Malc the overall standard was a bit lower than the last couple of weeks. Only Keith MacFarlane 533 (608) and Elaine Standley, 529 (619) broke the 500 level.

Robbie Holt had his best game and series of the league, 163 (209) and 479 (617).

Both of the Standley ladies converted good splits - Sarah got a 4-7-10 and Elaine was successfull with a 5-7

The league average improved by another 0.4 to 147.4

X Factor back to the top

Mac Too's stay at the top of the table proved to be shortlived when they came up against an inspired Brothers Grimm team and lost 8-4. X Factor finished strongly to beat Skittle Scuttlers 10-2 to reclaim top spot. Brothers Grimm are now in third place only 4 points behind Mac Too.

Once again, some good consistent bowling tonight by several players with 5 series over 500 but only 1 game over 200. Steve Emmony was top scorer with 571 (658 with handicap) to record his highest series for years (and years). Keith MacFarlane was amongst those to score over 500 to maintain his record of breaking 500 every week so far.

Neil Taylor's good form continued with 520 (616) in a very close match between Fatal Beauty and Shatner's Bassoon. Des Sands improved his best series score in this league by 21 to 516.

The league average improved by another 0.6 to 147.0

Mac Too Take Over

Mac Too move ahead of X Factor after their 8-4 win against Young Guns while X Factor lost 11-1 to Duo who move into third place. Brothers Grimm and LAPD have the same points total as Duo but a worse pinfall.

Some consistently good bowling tonight by several players - there were 6 players over 500 but none of them had any 200 games. Keith MacFarlane maintained his record of 500 series every week so far in this league with a 511 (589 with handicap).

Neil Taylor was top scorer this week though with 540 (639), his best ever series. Several players improved their high series for the league by many pins; Neil Brewin by 60 to 463 (601), Tony Pearce by 45 to 510 (615) and Elaine Standley by 43 to 524 (614)

Shatners Bassoon, Richard & Robbie, almost created a record of some sort by not scoring a strike through their whole match but Richard got one in the last frame of the third game. They also had the most practice at converting splits and Robbie was eventually successful with a 3-6-7-10

The league average improved by 0.5 to 146.4
